Our History
Broad Ripple IB Middle School has a rich history that began in 1886 in the town of Broad Ripple. Starting with just seven students, the school underwent numerous transformations through the years, including rebuilding after a fire, expansions, renovations, and annexations. Once a middle-class, predominantly white institution, the school gradually integrated in the 1950s, graduating its first African American class in 1953. Our longstanding traditions in performing arts and humanities have shaped us into a beacon of culture and education in Indianapolis.
Our Vision
Broad Ripple IB Middle School is set to become a hub of innovative education, offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program. Our vision is to foster a student-centered approach with international perspectives, providing opportunities for action and service. With a focus on learning how to learn, we aim to cultivate flexible thinking that prepares students to evaluate information critically and adapt to complex, unfamiliar situations.
Our Facilities
Investments in the school’s facilities are being made to support a vibrant learning environment. Improvements are planned for building deficiencies such as HVAC, plumbing, pavement, athletic facilities, telecom improvements, stage curtains, interior floors, lighting, and exterior doors. A focus on safety will include increasing security through card access and cameras. Athletic offerings will also see improvements, such as softball field upgrades, new football bleachers, and a new scoreboard. All renovations are targeted for completion in 2026.

Under the capable leadership of Principal Jeremy Baugh, Broad Ripple IB Middle School is poised to become a leading institution in Indianapolis. Baugh, with his diverse experience and dedication to underrepresented communities, will lead the school with a commitment to students’ academic and social-emotional growth.
Special Education Services
Broad Ripple IB Middle School offers Intensive Intervention, Life Skills, Arches, and Autism (Nest) programming in the 25-26 school year. These services align with our dedication to inclusivity and holistic education.
